Comedy Central has released a new Sinbad DVD titled “Where U Been?” It’s been 13 years since his last stand-up special and he’s finally back. In fact, during his routine he states that some people thought he was dead, eventhough he still tours 48 weeks out of the year. OK, you may still be kicking Mr. Sinbad but your comedy appears to be on life support. I must admit I wasn’t too excited about doing this review but I had some spare time and decided to have at it. I believe his loyal fans will enjoy it. It’s been so long since I’ve seen him, I can’t remember if I was a fan or not. However, after suffering through the show, I guess I wasn’t a fan.  It’s amusing, somewhat entertaining, but not funny. I smiled a lot, chuckled at times, and laughed enough times to count on one hand. His topics include Bernie Madoff, President Obama, strip clubs, relationships, marriage, and kids, just to name a few. I never once laughed so hard that it hurt, or that I got a cramp in my stomach (the ultimate test for me). At the end of his stand-up he performs a few funk songs as a drummer and guitarist with his band.

I respect the fact that he doesn’t use explicit language in his comedy. I also thought the bonus segment of the DVD was the best part. In it he shares a lot about how the show and his band came together to do the taping. You also learn quite a bit about Sinbad, the man. He seemed genuine, very personable, and funny (yes, funny) just talking to the camera or playing off whoever he was talking with in the segment. On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the highest) the DVD gets a 3.5 but the bonus material gets a 4.5.

DVD Movie Review

Breaking Point starring Tom Berenger, Busta Rhymes, Armand Assante, and “Sticky Fingaz” Jones

A criminal defense lawyer (Tom Berenger), who’s life seems to be falling apart from drugs and a family tragedy, takes a case to defend a man accused of murdering his girlfriend. During the murder, this wrongly accused man’s daughter goes missing. The defendent asks his lawyer to find her. And so the journey begins. An athlete-turned-gang-member (Kirk “Sticky Fingaz” Jones), a drug dealer (Busta Rhymes), plus a corrupt police force and prosecutor (Armand Assante) makes this story and truth finding mission both adventurous and action-packed.

Busta fans might want to rent this movie on a slow weekend night. By the way, the movie soundtrack is pretty nice. “Breaking Point” is rated R. We give it 2 stars out of 5.
